Haku was born in the snowy village, in the Land of Water, that had suffered from war not long before. The people of the village feared and heated for those with Kekkei Genkai. Haku became and orphan due to his kekkei genkai. Momochi Zabuza adopted Haku and taught Haku all the combat skills he knew.
